No Wilcox? I fear him and English more than the other guys combined (except Briles, but he ain't leaving Baylor with UT opening up in the next couple years).

His name was definitely floating around, but Patterson recently stated that ASU will "only take a candidate with HC experience". So it seems unlikely that Wilcox will even be interviewed for the job, which is idiotic IMO. Furthermore, with all the public turmoil surrounding the HC search, ASU is practically forced to get a big name.

I would not completely close the door on Briles.... a small chance, but a chance nonetheless

Then ASU came out with a statement saying they are considering coordinators, so who the hell knows what the story is at this point? Wilcox with good coordinators/recruiters is certainly the route I would go.

The absolutely crazy thing in this whole process is the longer A&M takes at securing a head coach, the less likely it is that Sumlin ends up being the guy..

A day ago with Gerogia boosters looking for any reason to fire Richt for anything and bring the prodigy back to Georgia, there is talk that A&M is about to make a strong push for Mark Richt..

At first glance it seems absurd that Richt would consider leaving Georgia for that job, but when you consider everything, is it really THAT far fetched?

They are also entaining offering Boise St Coach Chris Peterson 4.5 million to start to leave and come south, a deal unlikely ofcourse, but still possible

Also Troy Calhoun from Air Force and even Art Briles could be in play for the Aggies..

The bottom line is the more time that goes by the more it is clear Texas A&M isn't exactly thrilled with Kevin Sumlin, and according to multiple sources, ASU only broke off the talks because they felt (as did everyone else) that it was a foregone conclusion Sumlin was goign to A&M and they didn't want to be pawns to drive his price up..

If A&M goes elsewhere, Sumlin would be prime to land at ASU again IMO..

Heres to Richt, Peterson, Calhoun, Wilcox, Smart, or Briles accepting the A&M job soon :D

I would stay away from Sumlin. Maybe there is a reason he is still at Houston.

I have that concern as well but I still think he is a good coach and better than some of the bottom of the barrel candidates that have been thrown out since the last couple candidates fell through.

There are better coaches out there than Sumlin.

And if ASU was Ohio St., Texas, or Alabama, that would matter. As it is, Sumlin is the biggest name ASU could possibly sign. The only way for the Devils to get someone better is to take a home run swing on an unknown quantity.

I would take Bellotti over Sumlin.

I wouldn't.

You can have him if you like, though. Keep him in Tucson, away from my program that's already being run by cotton-headed ninnymuggins.

I'd take Belotti over Love as AD any day of the week. Love is as incompetent as they come.

No, I'll keep Rich Rodriguez who is already on the recruiting trail, offering a five-star qb from New Jersey. :) ASU needs to get a head coach soon because February 1st is signing day.

Art Briles signs a contract extension & gets a raise at Baylor.
On Friday evening it was reported in the Houston Chronicle that Briles had agreed to an extension and raise in salary at Baylor. The details of Briles' new deal aren't known at this point, but it's rumored that he'll be making somewhere in the area of $2.5 million in 2012.

One less HC for ASU's opening:bang:

I don't think he was ever going to be a serious candidate. His buyout was huge and he's never coached outside of Texas.

Totally agree. He's older now than DE was when he was hired and the guy hasn't coached in 3 years. Pass.

The ASU guy at Rivals just reported that we're now talking to Chryst from Wisconsin. That would be a great hire.

If ASU hired Chryst, this would be the first time in my lifetime as an ASU and Alabama fan that either team hired my first choice as head coach.

But it's just a tease, I'm sure.

Of these 11 open posts, where do you think ASU ranks in desirability? Akron, Arkansas State, Arizona State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Penn State, Southern Miss, Texas A&M, Toledo, and UCLA.

I'd say that behind Texas A&M, UCLA and ASU are right there. Which on its own would be quite a duel for a new HC. But with Love at the helm, ASU is really looking a few steps behind.

Thoughts? If you were a coach, which would be your choice?

Why haven't I heard anything about the Penn State job? Too much other stuff going on?
