CLEVELAND — The Guardians made assorted moves related to their pitching staff Tuesday, April 29, including placing injured starter Shane Bieber to the 60-day injured list in a 'clerical move.'
The Guardians also recalled left-hander Joey Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus, selected the contract of right-hander Vince Velasquez from Columbus, optioned right-hander Cody Bolton to Columbus and placed right-hander Paul Sewald on the 15-day injured list.
Sewald suffered his injury April 28 during the loss to the Twins. Sewald left the game with right shoulder inflammation.
Bieber has not pitched since the opening week of the 2024 MLB season. He made two starts before a season-ending Tommy John surgery. He had been on the 15-day disabled list and manager Stephen Vogt said April 29 the move to the 60-day IL was a 'clerical move,' retroactive to March 24.
Vogt said April 27 that Bieber would start game activity at some point in May at the club facilities in Goodyear, Arizona.
Bieber won the All-Star Game MVP in 2019 in Cleveland, won the American League Cy Young Award in 2020 and was also an All-Star in 2021. Bieber compiled a 62-32 record from 2018-24 with a 3.22 ERA in 136 appearances (134 starts).
This is a developing story.
