The Guardians will celebrate this gorgeous, early fall day with dollar dogs, fireworks and a visit from the Seattle Mariners tonight after a day off to explore the life of the mind.
Carlos Santana was released as the Guardians welcomed Daniel Schneemann back from paternity leave. Family members on Twitter shared that Daniel and his wife had a healthy baby girl, so congratulations to them. Our best wishes to Carlos Santana, and hopes he finds a contender to play with for at least the month of September. He will always be thought of by Guardians’ fans with confidence, but his last season in Cleveland, well, I guess that’s a tragedy right there.
We will see if Will Wilson is still with the team tonight or if they make another move. At least if Wilson is a Guardian much longer, my columns should get better because I’ve always found that writing comes from a great inner pain.
Nicole and I recorded another episode of the Disgusting Baseball podcast as we discussed things to look forward to in the remaining 29 games of the Guardians’ season. Matt Schlichting and Brian Hemminger recorded another excellent episode of Around the Corner, updating us on Guardians’ prospects in August. And don’t forget to look for the all-women-led podcast “Caught Lookin’” releasing its first episode next week. We’re all expecting great things.
As I watched Kyle Schwarber hit four home runs in a game last night, I imagined if Paul Dolan were to be persuaded to actually sign a hitter like that what the Guardians’ lineup might be like in 2026. Even Paul Hoynes is clamoring for offensive help in the offseason, so, maybe it’s time? But, then I remembered that the Dolans have done everything in their power to insulate themselves from the common man, from where they live, from where they trade, from where they fight and love and converse and… and… So naturally their team suffers and regresses into empty formalism. Ah well.
