"In the presence of his children — four girls and three boys ranging in age from 3 to 19 — Warner abandons any pretense of being authoritative. He borders on neurotic in his desire to be liked by the players he works with and the family he comes home to. For the flight to Florida, Warner packed a book on how to be a better father.
“He’s the good cop,” Brenda said, adding, “He wants to be their favorite.”
Warner would sooner join his children on the backyard trampoline than tell them to stop roughhousing before somebody is hurt. The day after clinching the Super Bowl berth, Brenda grabbed Warner’s left hand and noticed he had covered a game-day cut with a Dora the Explorer Band-Aid.
“Sometimes, I feel like I’m raising eight children,” Brenda wrote in an e-mail message.
