Jonathan Kuminga has been standing firm this summer, as he looks to navigate his first taste of restricted free agency. According to reports, the Golden State Warriors forward has spent the summer talking with other teams, as he explores his options. Kuminga has reportedly turned down multiple offers from the franchise, reportedly due to a team option on the final year of the deal.

In a recent episode of ESPN's NBA Today, former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins shared a harsh truth with Kuminga. He noted how the Warriors' desire to control his future is partly because of the control it will give them in the trade market. Perkins went as far as to say the Kuminga isn't wanted in Golden State.

“I don’t know if Jonathan Kuminga is watching NBA Today, but they don’t want you, dog. They don’t value you, because if they did, you wouldn’t be going through this," Perkins said. "It started last season. Steve Kerr showed you how he felt about you when you were out of the rotation during the Play-In Tournament, in the first round against the Rockets."

Since being drafted by the Warriors in 2021, Kuminga has struggled to earn a consistent role in Steve Kerr's rotation. Over the past 18 months, he's bounced between the starting lineup, the second unit and even endured some spells on the outside of Kerr's game-day rotations.

With training camp now just two weeks away, Kuminga and the Warriors must reach a conclusion in their negotiations, regardless of whether he signs a new deal or opts into his qualifying option for the upcoming season. After all, the front office has other areas it needs to focus on, including rounding out the current roster, and they can't move on until Kuminga's situation is resolved.
