Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll provided some injury updates as they met with the media at Giants training camp on Wednesday morning…
On the first day of training camp, Malik Nabers is officially back.
The star wide receiver didn’t work during the early stages of Big Blue’s offseason program, but he’s expected to be out there with no restrictions throughout camp.
“He’s ready to roll,” the head coach said.
Nabers had been slowed down a bit by a toe injury that he dealt with throughout his time at LSU and again during his stellar rookie campaign.
Though the concern was never too high, it’s certainly encouraging to see him return to practice.
The 21-year-old will be looking to build an early connection with new starting QB Russell Wilson in town.
Nabers is expected to be the focal point of New York's offense yet again after hauling in 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns during his first year in the league.
"We just want to see the same thing from him," Daboll said.
The Giants placed Thomas on the PUP list to kick off camp, but they aren't viewing it as a setback.
The team continues to take a cautious approach with their starting LT, but they expect that he'll be ready to roll for their Week 1 divisional matchup with the Commanders.
"Things change, you can never be 100 percent," Schoen said. "We're going to take this day-by-day with him, when he's ready to go he'll be back out there, but we anticipate him to be ready for the opener."
The oft-injured Thomas has missed a total of 18 games over the past two seasons.
He appeared in just six last year before being landing back on IR and being forced to undergoing season-ending surgery to repair a Lisfranc injury in his right foot.
He's been rehabbing over the past few months, but isn't quite ready to get back out there yet.
Two more of Big Blue's young talents are set to return in full capacity.
RB Cam Skattebo and DT Darius Alexander have both been deemed a full-go for camp, Daboll said.
Both Skattebo and Alexander worked on the side during OTAs due to undisclosed injuries.
It's certainly a big camp for them as they look to carve out a role in their first year with the new club.
Skattebo, of course, is a big power-back taken in the fourth round out of Arizona State who could compliment projected top back Tyrone Tracy Jr. very well.
Alexander was selected a round before him out of Toledo, and he has the makings of a potential steal as he slides in on a loaded defensive-front next to All-Pro talent Dexter Lawrence.
