By adding a lot of pieces across the board in Las Vegas, the expectation is that the Raiders will be a better football team this season. They have the heavy obstacle of the fact that all three AFC West opponents made the playoffs last year. The Raiders have a tough division to play in, but their schedule is not daunting to the point where you can cancel any thought they can get 9 to 10 wins this season. Former Trojans head coach Pete Carroll is the main driving force for optimism within the Raiders, alongside quarterback Geno Smith.
Every season there is a surprise team, a team that has the ingredients nobody knows it yet until they ultimately pop and they are in the playoffs, that team could be the Raiders this year. Levi Damien with Raiders Wire highlights the optimism that experts have about the 2025 Raiders In a recent article.
"Optimism is at high among Raider Nation at the moment. And for good reason the national media is feeling pretty optimistic about them as well. This includes ESPN's Bill Barnwell who had the Raiders among the five NFL teams most likely to improve in 2025.
The Raiders went from Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew at quarterback to Geno Smith, and they replaced Antonio Pierce with former Seahawks and Patriots coach Pete Carroll. Swapping out overmatched, replacement-level options (or worse) with solid veterans isn't the sort of move that inspires Super Bowl aspirations, but it does raise the Raiders' floor...
While a run of interceptions dropped Smith to 21st in QBR last season, the 34-year-old is one of the league's most accurate quarterbacks. He had the second-best off-target rate of any passer last season, trailing Joe Burrow by a tenth of a percentage point. The Raiders' quarterbacks combined to rank 26th. Smith ranked fifth in precise pass rate, measuring how often he hit his receivers in stride with easily catchable balls. Las Vegas quarterbacks ranked 25th. There are going to be far more viable opportunities for pass catchers Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers this season."
The Raiders are a team that has been in quarterback purgatory recently but the addition of top ten caliber quarterback Geno Smith should be one of the biggest improvements for the Raiders. If you do not have quarterback stability you can't win in the NFL and your chances to win are even worse in a division that has elite quarterback play.
The floor at the very least is higher for the Raiders but with the duo of Geno Smith and Pete Carroll two career overachievers anything is possible for the Las Vegas Raiders team this season.
