Through 40 games, Jonathon Gannon has a 14-26 record. Here is how he compares to every other Cardinals coach since Joe Bugel who coached at least 40 games while in Arizona. Steve Wilks and Buddy Ryan aren’t included due to not coaching enough games, and Gene Stallings wasn’t included due to starting in St. Louis.

1. Bruce Arians-27-13
2. Ken Whisenhunt-22-18
3. Kliff Kingsbury-20-19-1
4. Vince Tobin-15-25
5. Dave McGinnis-15-25 (does not count interim status in 2000)
6. Jonathon Gannon-14-26
7. Denny Green-12-28
8. Joe Bugel-11-29

I would say that Gannon is firmly in the need to be fired category. Dave McGinnis routinely fielded a roster with double digit undrafted free agents and he is right there with Gannon. Yuck!!

Yeah he sucks. But I’m afraid he’ll get to play his contract out simply bc Bidwill is cheap and won’t want to pay two HC’s he’s had to fire. Buckle up Cards fans, we’re not even half way into his contract. It’s gonna be a long next couple of years.

These kind of stats are called a confirmation bias.

What was the biggest difference for Whiz and BA vs the rest here? Whiz had Denny Greens roster and a HOF QB. BA had Larry in his prime with Palmer slinging the ball 20 interceptions and 47.5 sacks on defense. Dumpster Dan had a pick 6! JG had Josh Dobbs for the first 9 games.

There are other reasons to look at moving on from JG, but the first 40 games record ain't it.

What did Dave McGinnis have and he and Gannon have almost identical records.

You also left off his 1-8 coaching start. Again, confirmation bias when your do stuff like that. That was the same start JG had with Josh Dobbs. McGinnis is actually 13-27 in his first 40.

Based on this logic, Monti needs to go as well.

Many thanks for the W-L comparison. It’s alarming. That said, if we were trending upward currently I wouldn’t mind the poor mark, but we currently seem to be treading water (at best) or getting worse.

Bidwill doesn’t throw down that fine unless he wanted to get rid of him.
He’s a young coach and wasn’t a well-regarded schemer when he was hired here. Is there a small chance there’s a mutual parting after this year so he can go lick his wounds back in Philly or something?

JG is likely to go Indy with Steichen imo. I cant see him goign back to Philly. There is too much negativity about that Super Bowl vs. Chiefs.

Let’s not go too far. Monti has his issues, but there are bigger concerns.
Is Monti good? What are his top 3 moves? Josh Sweat’s deal has been great. But you can’t keep getting squat from your draft classes and preach we build through the draft.

The only draft pick we have starting on our OL after three years is PJJ.

Yeah, I'd love to know what Monti does well.

The sad part of this thread isn't Gannon's record, it's that list of head coaches he's being compared to. Other than Arians and Whisenhunt (only because he WAS the head coach in the Super Bowl) that is a whole bunch of drek.
