Another early Gameday Thread, and this one will be quite brief. We have a long day of scoreboard watching ahead of us. In ten minutes after this is published, at 9:40 am Arizona time, the Reds will get under way as they try to avoid a potentially disastrous sweep at the hands of the Pirates. Three hours later, at 12:40 pm, the main course gets under way at Chase Field, in the rubber game between the D-backs and Dodgers. The season series is also on the line there, though that is merely of token interest. And finally, beginning at 4:40 pm in Chicago, the Mets face the Cubs, after they also split the first two games of their series. Get your snacks and settle in on the couch, folks…
The D-backs have switched things up for this game. The initially announced plans were to go for a four-man rotation down the stretch. But, instead, today will be a bullpen game. Jalen Beeks will be the opener today, which is presumably why he wasn’t available out of the bullpen yesterday. He’ll face the top of the LA order and then I imagine Nabil Crismatt will get the bulk of the innings thereafter. At least, with the D-backs currently having a ten-man bullpen, this should hopefully not leave the team wheezing too much as they face what will be a decisive series against the Padres. Also, a win today will #ProtectThePool from Dodger celebration!
