D-backs host Giants on anniversary of Big Unit's perfecto
Arizona Diamondbacks[/a] are far from perfect with their rotation heading into their Saturday game against the San Francisco Giants in Phoenix.

Zack Godley[/a], 1-3 with a 7.65 ERA in 10 games (seven starts), will make the start for the Diamondbacks despite speculation by media that he would be relegated to the bullpen. Manager Torey Lovullo announced his decision Friday after Arizona's 7-0 win in the opener of the three-game series.

Asked if Godley would be an "opener" rather than a starter -- Godley pitched only two innings in his latest start against the Braves last Sunday despite allowing only one run -- Lovullo said, "I'll talk to Zack about that. We're going to give him a little more opportunity (Saturday)."

Robbie Ray started on Monday. Why isn't he starting today?

Here is my theory.

The SF Giants are such a light hitting team, maybe Torey sees an opportunity for Zach Godley to eat some innings. Just a thought.

Or by him throwing batting practice today, Godley could trigger an offensive resurgence in the Giants that costs us tomorrow's game as well.

Godley’s batting!?!?

If they’re not even going to try and win why should I try to watch?

I'm just catching up with the game. Godley gave up 4 runs in 3 1/3 innings.

What could possibly justify Torey putting him back in the rotation?

Is he being pressured from above? If so, he needs the cojones to say,
"I'm the Manager and I'll make the decisions."

If not, those above him need to get to the bottom of it.

How long will this go on?

And it's now 6-2 Giants.

You know the decision to keep going to him just reeks of Torey and his excessive loyalty to individual players, rather than the team.

So Godley's theme music as he walks to the mound (or runs to the dugout) should be "Stand By Your Man"?

I guess he runs to the dugout so he doesn't have to hear the boos.

You're going to likely lose any game Godley starts unless your team scores 5+ runs. He is guaranteed to give up at least 4 runs by the 3rd inning, he's absolutely lost it and he cannot continue to pitch at the major league level, maybe its mental and he can be fixed, but I don't like losing games and we may be fighting for a wild card. They cannot continue to start him for the morale of the team and the fans.

Meanwhile, the D-backs have brought it to 6-4.

Oops, the Panda hit a HR off Andriese in the 8th
to make it 7-4.

And now, as I predicted, the Giants offense is red hot, thanks to Godley throwing batting practice. This very well might cost us tomorrow's game as well.
