Calhoun with a 2-run HR in the 3rd. 2-0 D-backs.

They have been hitting against the shift,
rather than into it, a lot since they held their
players-only meeting. Also bunting and a few
stolen bases.

The difference over past games versus the
initial half have been day and night.

I'm proud of our hitters for taking matters into
their own hands.

Yesterday, Steve mentioned that he foresees
the players around the league doing the same.

They mentioned that Robbie reached the 1,000 strikeout milestone
as the second quickest after Randy Johnson.

So far, that has not been a good thing, because it drives up his
pitch count and makes him a 5-inning starting pitcher.

That's like hoping that the average summer temperature in Phoenix goes back to leveling off at 105 vs. 115.

Since being named closer, Archie has made just about every 9th inning an adventure.

If we continue to have the lead into the 7th and 8th inning, Guerra BETTER take the mound.

Yup, Robbie pitches only 5+ innings -- 95 pitches -- giving up 6 walks . . . and no hits.

All those strikeouts do not help the D-backs with him unable to go beyond 5 innings.

Our current "ace" pitcher, spelled with 2 S's, has the wrong priorities

Guerra gives up an immediate 2-run HR and it's 2-2.

And Lovullo puts Guerra into a role with which he is not familiar, instead of his usual late-inning role. Lovullo is ruining the entire pitching staff.

Earth to Torey: GUERRA IS AN EIGHTH INNING SET-UP GUY, NOT A SIXTH INNING MOP-UP GUY.

This is exactly how Torey ruined Yoshi Hirano.

Now Taylor is getting tagged. A run in -- 4-2 Padres --
with one out and runners on 2nd & 3rd,

The run came in on an error by Ahmed.

Torey is setting his players up to fail. Guerra is historically better starting a late inning from the wind-up and struggles with inherited runners and pitching from the stretch. Taylor is a starter who is not at all accustomed to pitching in late inning situations of any kind.

It's like he is using the Magic 8 Ball to decide roles in any particular game. That is no way to manage.

Meanwhile, Ahmed continues to look like he took the money and ran, as his fielding now stinks as bad as his hitting...and yet he is the only one Torey keeps in the line-up other than his MVP Candidate.

Escobar with a clutch 3-run HR in the 8th for a 5-4 lead.

And our Drama Queen closer is in from the bullpen. :)

And he throws at Machado's head.

Throwing nothing but fast balls, he walks Manny.

Six balls and two strikes so far. Forceout for the 1st out.

Ground ball for the second out. Tying run on 3rd.

And ARCHIE'S AMAZING ADVENTURE gets the save
and the Diamondbacks are at .500.

BTW, Jody Jackson's and Brandon Webb's constant pre-
and post-game "Y, know"s are very annoying.

If Archie doesn't choke, looks like another win in spite of Lovullo, rather than because of him...

Glad to see Escobar wake up...finally...

It's a win.

A pitcher should be able to get outs no matter what inning they are in.. Stop the "he's a late inning specialist, so Tory is ruining him crap". TL makes plenty of bad decisions, but a pitcher HAS to be able to respond no matter when. Don't blame Guerra crapping the bed on TL. That is all on himself
