D-backs hope to save season against Padres
The postseason hopes of the Arizona Diamondbacks are quickly fading away.

Not only are the Diamondbacks five games behind the National League's second wild-card slot with nine games to go, there are three teams between Arizona and the promised land.

The Diamondbacks' playoff hopes are on life support. They need a miracle.

Enter the San Diego Padres.

Perhaps if the decision to move the Catcher up in the batting order . . . No, I don't want to beat a dead horse.

Perhaps if the decision to move the Catcher up in the batting order lasted more than . . . No, I don't want to beat a dead horse.

Perhaps if the decision to move the Catcher up in the batting order lasted more than one game, then abandoned, then tried
later for one game, then abandoned like tonight . . . our two power hitting Catchers wouldn't be pitched around and our dismal
left-on-base performance wouldn't be the case and we might have been serious Wild Card contenders.

If it is a bad concept, why does Lovullo keep going back to it for one game? If it is a good concept (as I believe it is), why does
he keep abandoning it after only one game?

Torey Lovullo = BADD -- Baseball Attention Deficit Disorder. If it is being determined by cyber metrics, it proves that the Manager
should speak up and that any theory should pass the eye test before being accepted.

I hope next season doesn't become a continuation of this season and become our third in a row of .500 mediocrity.

It is going to take changes . . . to change.

It's the middle of the 4th and the D-backs lead 2-0.

'Happy to see that, after going a month without
an RBI, Carson Kelly had a 2-run single in the 2nd.

Apparently, the Padres tried for a double-play
prior to that and blew it at two bases, setting
it up for Carson to drive them in.

And, once again, this site is moving very slowly.

It's been fifteen minutes and I'm waiting for this
to post.

It's an hour later and I see my post appeared,
so I edited it.

Kelly pitched 7 innings with a 2-hit shutout.

Walker with a double off the wall in LF to lead off the 8th.

Looking for an insurance run with a 2-0 lead.

And Jones singles him in with one out.

Kelly comes up now with two outs and runners on 1B & 2B.

Grounder to Machado at 3B who saw Jones run out of the
baseline and just held the ball. Bases loaded and the ump's
safe decision stands.

Lamb coming up as a PH and lines to 2B for the 2nd out.

Almonte, batting for Locastro, walks in a run vs. the 6'7"
Padres reliever Wingenter. 4-0 D-backs.

The D-backs have gotten what they needed in these past
two series -- opponents who give away games.

Another Padres reliever comes in and gives up a 3-run
double to Rojas. 7-0 D-backs. Escobar is the 9th batter of
the inning and he walks. Runners on first & second.

Walker coming up for his second at-bat of the inning and
he walks to load the bases again. Another pitching change.

The new Padres pitcher is outstanding with the bases empty,
but batters are hitting .400 off him with runners on base.

And Wilmer Flores drives in two more with a half-swing hit.
9-0 D-backs. Adam Jones is the 12th man to bat in the
8th and he ends it with a pop-up to short CF.

Seven runs in the top of the 8th. That's pretty good
insurance runs. :)

Sherfy coming in to "save" the 9-0 lead in the bottom of the 9th. :)

Adam Jones nonchalances a fly ball in RF and drops it with one out.

Machado also nonchalances it and jogs to 1B. No surprise there.

And it's over.

Luke Weaver is slated to start and pitch 30-35 pitches in his return tomorrow.

Games start at 5:30 tomorrow and 1:00 Sunday.
