From today's lineup (with Lamb on the bench), I expected Mahle to be a lefty pitcher.

But he is a righty. It is good to see the red hot Flores starting, despite the righty-righty
matchup. Especially considering Lamb's (almost Mendoza line) .200 batting average.

Mahle's record this season is 2-10. with an ERA of 4.72 vs. Robbie's 12-7 and 3.97.

It would be great to see the D-backs jump out to a quick lead (as in the last game)
but add some scoring during the game. It wound up being too close for comfort.

Robbie gives up a run in a 29-pitch first inning.

His constantly high pitch count is of concern.

29 is high but it is clear SP andtheir managers/coaches don't care?
It sounds like a pitcher obsessed with strikeouts,
just as the hitters are obsessed with hitting HR's
and into the shift.

Many of us think it is taking the fun out of MLB,
but there's not much fans can do about it.

Well, it worked for Nick. Ahmed with a leadoff solo HR in the third.

Tie score. I expected this would be a hitters' game. We'll see.

A Red's single in the 3rd makes it a 2-1 game.

Runners on 1st & 2nd with one out.

Robbie is at 61 pitches.

Hmmm, as I was typing, BB said that the long
men in the bullpen are always on alert when
Robbie is the starter.

Having the bullpen on alert isn't what you want work your "ace"

Robbie with a bunt lifted beyond the pitcher to put runners on first & second
in the 5th . . . and Ketel lifts a 3-run HR to make it a 4-2 D-backs game.

And a double by Flores. Here is that rally we've been hoping for.

Pitching change for the Reds.

Flores is tagged out trying for 3B on a ground ball.

A double for Walker, the 5th hit of the inning, puts
D-backs on 2B & 3B with two outs.

And the rookie Rojas singles in 2. 6-2, as the D-backs
batted around.

What just took place on the mound was Torey at his best. Robbie wasn't about to come out of the game, even though he would be risking further harm to his hand/finger, and thereby placing future appearances & performances in jeopardy.
Torey looked him in the eyes and spoke truth, ultimately convincing Robbie to do the right thing and head into the dugout...
Just hope it's nothing too serious for Robbie.

It might be a blister. Crichton needed a lot of warmup pitches.

They are saying it took a lot of time for him to be summoned
from the bullpen. The booth says that Torey and Robbie spent
a lot of time going back and forth.

1 out in the 5th with a runner on 1B.

A walk and a 3-run HR and it's a 6-5 game.

I guess Crichton didn't take enough warmup
pitches.

A great diving catch in RF by Dyson, in for defensive purposes,
helps Ginkel get out of a 2-on no-out relief situation in the 7th.

It's still 6-5 D-backs. Kelly leads off the 8th with a double and
advances to 3B on a Dyson sacrifice.

Marte, 3-for-3 so far has 12 hits in his last 21 at-bats, but he
strikes out for the second out.

Escobar had been stranded after a double a few innings ago.

But the red hot Flores singles in Kelly to make it 7-5 with 2
outs. A necessary insurance run. Locastro, pinch-running for
Flores, steals 2B, but is left stranded.

BTW, Robbie's injury was a blister. On the middle finger. No comment. :D

BB is saying that Ginkel seems to be having trouble with his fast ball.
16 strikes and 15 balls, as he walks the batter. Runners on 1st & 2nd
with two outs in the bottom of the 8th. Phew, a popup.

Archie coming in to pitch the 9th vs. the heart of the order.

Please, Archie, you have an insurance run. Don't let both of
your usual two 9th inning baserunners score.

First batter -- base hit.

2nd batter -- base hit.

Are you kidding me?

Archie is in over his red bearded head.

Flyout to RF. Runners on 1B & 3B.

Still a chance that the tying run on 1B won't score.

Walk. The bases are loaded.

I've never seen a closer who so consistently puts at least
two runners on base so you can predict it.

Steve is calling Archie a high wire act.

D-backs win 7-5, leaving the bases loaded. Resume breathing. :)

Archie is gonna get burned if he keeps playing with fire. He can't come in and put players on bases or giving up 1 runs all the time. A good team is gonna make hi pay for those.
