We're now 5 games back of the 2nd Wild Card...with 5 other teams battling for the slot. Anything is possible of course. And, this team has a knack for getting off the canvass each time I think they're down for the count...
That said, I really wouldn't be surprised if we're barely able to scratch out just one win in Milwaukee...and if that happens, I think it'd be safe to say the season is over.

I agree with your assessment, 82.

They say that good pitching beats good hitting. That seems to spell the doom of
the 2019 Diamondbacks. For several reasons.

1) Our starting rotation at this time is sub-par. All are #3 to #5 (or worse) pitchers,
including our default "ace", Robbie Ray, and his high pitch counts.

2) We have been at the mercy of the other team's starter. And it is getting worse
now at crunch time. We are losing to rookies and opposing pitchers who have
high earned run averages against the rest of the league.

3) As bad as our starting pitching is, when the D-backs bring starters up from the
Minors, they have to change their routine, sitting in the bullpen waiting to pitch
a few innings sporadically, rather than pitch every five days, as they have been
conditioned to do.

All this talk about jumping over five teams and grabbing the Wild Card spot must
be heard by the players, too. Just like their home run swings, they seem to be
going for all or nothing. It is, as you say, not going to be all. That leaves nothing.

Our Manager, Pitching Coach and Hitting Coaches do not properly fit the team
that our GM has put together. It happens!

Regarding tonight's game, Lamb will be the key.
Look at his stats vs. Lyles.

Will the .211 hitter or .583 hitter show up?

And Ahmed and Marte have done well. And
Escobar. If the D-backs hitters don't jump
on this guy, shame on them.

It happens!

Our starting pitching was never a strength... even with Grienke. This team was destined to be at or slightly below .500 right from the start.
Yet, we have guys like Escobar, who accomplished an incredibly rare feat with his 20 doubles, 10 triples, 28 HR's and 100 RBI, and Marte who is 5th in the bigs in hits, hitting .319 with 27 HR's and an OPS of .955!
As a team, the Dbacks rank 9th in the majors in runs scored and 10th in OPS. Hitting and scoring runs isn't nearly as much the problem as the pitching has been. I think Torey and Darnell Coles have done a better than solid job with this team.
Hazen will have to work his magic in the offseason and hope that our farm begins to pay dividends by producing legit MLB quality pitchers... Merrill Kelly and Taylor Clarke don't fit that bill...And Young is borderline, even though he is generally been quite solid. They took a low-risk flier on Leake and he's flopped... No harm no foul there.
But yes, we are completely void of a legit #1... and likely a #2 as well. Perhaps Luke Weaver can rise to become a legit #2 if he can return in full health. Walker will never be more than a reliable #3 (hopefully), and as for Ray - I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Hazen trades him in the offseason...

We will lose 2 of 3 or get swept . This team had no balls and lacks leadership. The Brewers have lost 6 of 8 I believe, what a perfect time to get back on track playing AZ.

I believe this team has performed at or above expectations. Look at our overall lineup compared to the teams ahead of us. We have done well with what we have. We don't have a top of the line team, period. It is what it is.

I see that they have four runs and we have no hits.

Yup, that's about par for the course. :(

Those are some awful home uniforms.
White on white. It's ghostly.

Of course, we're wearing all black. It looks
like we're mourning our "no way" chance
to get into the post season.

And now they have five runs and we still
have no hits.

And Kelly is over 100 pitches with one
out in the 5th.

We did break up the no-no, for what it's worth.

Walker got a bloop hit to go with his two walks.

D-backs star of the game.

Marte with an RBI single in the 9th. Final score 6-1 Brewers.
Ketel keep his hit and RBI mini-streak going.

Rrrring.

Kendrick: Hello, Ken Kendrick here.
Sarver: Hello, Ken, it's Robert Sarver.
Kendrick: What's up, Robert?
Sarver: Just want to give you some friendly advice.
Kendrick: What's that, Robert?
Sarver: Tank, Ken, Tank.
Kendrick: Oh, OK, Robert. I'll talk to Torey.
Sarver: But you have to do it for a decade.
Kendrick: OK, thanks, Robert.

Is there any other explanation for tonight's game?
