Wow! The Padres taking the lead on MadBum really brought their cardboard fans to life!

'Wonder if they are going to do the wave.

Not when all those bats swing skyward. The result so far. Down 3-1.

Even though the D-backs lead the game in HR's 1-0.

And the Padres with a 2-out single to make it 4-1.

Then a walk loads the bases and a 3-run double given up by Ginkel.

7-1 Padres with 2 outs in the 7th.

Following the 20-3 embarrassment in L.A., this does not look good!

As I've mentioned before, with the D-backs and Suns disappointing,
at least I have the Mercury to give my heart to. Go, ladies!

That has been Lovullo's offenses since he took over the team. They constantly try to swing for the fences. This team always hits solo HRs. But fail to drive runs in.

Lovullo has long overstayed his welcome. This team is way too talented to be performing this crappily.

The American League approach just doesn't work in the National League.

Dbacks last 3 games are being outscored 28-4. But lovullo will be saved by the short season.

Just a reminder that Torey first announced that MadBum would be limited to 85 pitches.

Then we heard 90-95. And at 100, our new ace blows the game.

What I dislike the most about Torey's managing is his wishy-washy approach.

He doesn't stand by his commitments. That obviously affects the team. :(

Coke has its Coke Zero (now called Coke Zero Sugar).

The field in San Diego advertises Budweiser Zero.

And the D-backs are now introducing D-backs Zero.

Hey, Torey, it's not the same.

My biggest dislike about his approach is that he moves the line up so much that he doesn't allow guys to get grooves. Last year I remember too many times a guy who would be hitting pretty well and boom, put it a guy who rides the bench and kills the other guys momentum. Or constantly moving a guy from being clean up or lead off. I get these guys are pros and should be able to adjust. But baseball is such a mental game that if you tweak things around like that constantly. Your guys will never get in a groove.

You hit it on the nose! Everyday is a new beginning.

Look at the confusion at 1B. Right now, it is being
covered by a guy behind Lamb, Walker and Cron.

Then Walker, our third 1B in the game.

Thankfully, the game ends. At 7-2.

Let's see how Robbie Ray pitches
Game 2 in this, his contract year.

'Sorry, I misquoted about 1B. Walker was the DH today.

But he and Lamb, our first two 1B were both removed from the game, in favor of Locastro and Vargas.

I'll say again, if Lovullo is going to continue the batting approach of "lift", at least make Cron (our only real threat of "lift") the regular DH or 1B.

He didn't even get into the game despite the starting DH and 1B replaced.

If I were Cron, I'd sue Lovullo for lack of equal opportunity.

I guess the bum name is applicable lol
It was not his fault. As I posted, it was on the Manager . . . who, as usual, made a proclamation
(to keep MadBum's pitch count low), then disregarded it and stretched him to 100 pitches.

I'll say it again. In interviews, Torey is a nice guy but he has a weak level of conviction. He says
one thing, then does another. Over and over. Each day is a new beginning. Especially with his
hesitance to name a batting order and never give it a chance to build chemistry and gel.

He tries to please everyone and it just hasn't worked. There is nothing wrong with naming his
regulars and his subs at every position and sticking to it. Especially at 1B. And now at DH.
Regular platoons, fine. But we have four potential 1B and they never know when they'll play.

No, MadBum getting hit hard as he approached 100 pitches in his first start in this crazy
season was not his fault. Lovullo announced a plan of 85 pitches or so and MadBum evidently
paced himself to that. Then Torey messed with it . . . and look what happened.

I noticed that, absolutely destroyed by the Dodgers (yes it was a practice game but still) and now get mopped by a team that you have more talent than. I picked us to finish .500 this year and that may be generous . We have too many unproven guys in this lineup, we are only going to be as good as our 1-5 who looked like they couldn’t hit a beach ball yesterday. Our only saving grace is that our 2-3 starting pitchers can have break out years which is possible, madbum should be able to get outs but not like old madbum

You really think he lost that much in an extra 10 or 15 pitches? That's the reason? Oh well.

Specifically, 100+ pitches in his first outing in a chaotic short-notice season with an irregular 'Spring Training'? Yes!

You want proof? I already mentioned it. Torey was quoted as saying that MadBum would be on an 85-or-so pitch limit.

And, as usual, his proclamations mean nothing the next day. If I feel it, imaging how the players react.

Then Torey was just quoted as saying that it's up to the players to do better.
