As the first game of the (ir)regular season, not many stats to look at. Versus our 20-3 pounding by the Dodgers in the two pre-season games, the Padres split
their two games vs. the Angels, winning 5-4 and losing 1-0. So the Padres scored 5 runs to our 3. With our ace pitchers on the mound, that gives us hope.

The D-backs are in good shape in terms of injuries. It will be nice to get Corbin Martin back.
Silvino Bracho? He's never shown himself to be a Major Leaguer.

Go D-backs. Go MadBum! Get us off to a good start. Winning at least 3 out of 4 from the
Pods would be good. Splitting the four is, at worst, a necessity. I predicted that the D-backs
would finish just over .500 at 31-29.

Let's get off to a good start, MadBum and the D-backs.

He'll be on, I think they said, an 85-pitch limitation.

And, with the game about to start, here in the Valley,
Monsoon has hit and the rain is falling.

But there is sunshine in Sandy Eggo. :)

D-backs get runners on each of the first three innings, but can't get them in.

Scoreless going to the bottom of the 3rd.

I'm glad the D-backs abandoned the dark gray road uniforms (they looked
like accountants) and have gone to the other extreme -- very light gray.

I like it!

MadBum gives up a bases loaded double with two outs in the 6th
on his 100th pitch. I was screaming to take him out when his pitch
count hit 90. Bad managing by Torey Lovullo! 3-0 Padres.

Newcomer Junior Guerra is coming on to pitch. He led all relievers
in pitches thrown last year. And he walks his first batter.

Sigh! It's going to be a long short-season.

This isnt a good start. Not just this game but the other 2 before this one also. Horrible offensive is still continuing.

You're right! And the lack of hitting puts pressure on the pitchers. Even MadBum.

Hosmer was 1-17 vs Madbum and go him down 0-2. Just a really bad two strike slider.

When you're at 100 pitches to start the belated season, that's what happens.

D-backs hitters have three innings to do something.

Cole Calhoun with a solo HR. 3-1.

And Kelly jogs to 1B to end the half inning.

The D-backs need a Manager with fire to
set the example.
