I was a Plummer homer till the bitter end but after looking over his tenure at the Cardinals the fact has slammed me in the face like a two ton... heavy thing if I may quote Queensryche. Plummer was hard for me to dish because he had all the qualities of a leader and a competitive spirit that was very hard to match, in between it all I forgot about one major thing... scrambling is icing on the cake for a QB and Plummer DOES NOT HAVE A GREAT ARM AND CANNOT READ A DEFENSE. The Broncos will finish at 500 if lucky and the Cardinals are a much improved team without him. The whole freaking offense is going to look better. The line will have a QB with a quicker release and won't have to worry about blocking for a guy who would run out of the pass protection before it even breaks down.

If you think McAddley and Kasper showed promise with Plummer last year, then them along with Johnson, Boldin and Gilmore will look like world beaters with Blake at QB. I don't see Blake as a stop gap QB, I see a guy who has been tossed unfairly about the league and has a QB rating close to 80.

We no longer have to wait on the developement of Thomas Jones and have backs that KNOW what to do with a open hole in the line and won't perform a broadway musical of dancing and take advantage of the opportunity the line has given them. Oh yeah, we have a fullback who can block, thank you.

Why is it we are also so ready to believe the draft is going to provide the only starting players on defense. I didn't think Dennis Johnson would be any help his first year but this young kid has a lot to offer. Bryant by the way, I feel will be twice the player he was last year. Finally, I can't wait for Calvin Pace to get on the field. The guy didn't play at a big school but neither did Roy Green or Darrell Green. Yes, we lost the Mel Kiper value game which is based on predictions that hardle EVER come true but I'm more worried about the upcoming season and this team needed players and got some. Pace looks like one pi$$ed guy right now and I hope he stays this way through out the season and takes it out on the opponents.

If you base your observations on the rest of the media slamming press that seems to feel it is safe to Cardinal bash every second then I can't say anything to change your mind.

No we didn't get Robinson, but then again if Graves would have been that quick to sign him then chances are we would also have Kordell Stewart as a QB right now and I would not have any playoff aspirations with a AFC Plummer clone.

Yeah, I got some Cardinal kool-aid but I didn't add the sugar. I'm a long time fan that can't wait for training camp to start. It is the football world against the Cardinals and I proudly wear my Cardinal gear in the heart of Cowboy country. I don't have much problems with Cowboy fans. They take a shot at me and all I have to tell them is the Cardinals beat them in their last meaningful game with Plummer of all people, ala '98, beat them in the last game they played in 2002 and we have Emmitt Smith and they can justify all they want when he reaches a 1000 yards with this Cardinal OL.

I have have a motto for this season. Everyone said we reached in this year's draft, FINE!

"Reach for the Stars", GO CARDINALS!!!

I agree 100% on jake and blake...I have always liked jeff blake..I wanted to get him on our roster when he went to the saints and again when he went to the ravens...More so this past season...he went into baltimore to be a backup..and we needed a backup...I wanted him over our horrible backups when he went to the saints..I thought plummer was OK as our starter prior to that season (I was wrong). I stop at us being a 500 team or better this upcoming season..unless we end up signing 3 - 4 veterans to fill out the defense (corner, dtackle, safety and tweener type lb/de). We wanted colvin so darn bad..why have we not pursued a comparable type player..maybe a guy who is not as good - but has comparable skills. I swear we would be all over jamir miller if he would have never played for the cardinals in the 1st place.

In summary..I like our FA signings..I actually like our draft picks...but I think we need to take it a few steps further and finish the job...some areas that we should have been addressed have not been solved.

There are people on the defensive side who have the potential to be playmakers. Bryant, Fisher, Wilson; maybe Thompson and Jackson. We just need the lightbulb to come on and turn potential into results. The talent is there, is the effort?

sack daddy..I am in agreement with the players you mentioned...and I am giving our young dend group (pace, johnson, kvb and king) the benefit of the doubt..we have excellent depth at linebacker..but I think a tweener could help us.. By brining in a monster dtackle and a reserve corner or two..it does not take playing time away from the guys you mention..it would make them better because they will not be double teamed as much, etc..

Pinnacle--I agree. Right now the pickings are slim. When June rolls around, teams will cut some solid vets to open up space for the young guys they want to keep. When they do, there will be bargains to be had. Whether we nab some of those bargains or not remains to be seen. Graves said wait until training camp to pass judgement. We'll see what transpires when these players start to get cut. Hopefully, they act and bring some of these guys in.

Good to see that you are coming around on old Jaque Plummer, Jetstream. The more I hear about his work habits, and how he wasn't a leader, the more happy I am that he is gone.

I was a Plummer homer until this past season, but early on I realized that he hadn't improved much from early in his career.

Shanahan doesn't show much tolerance for mistakes. It will be interesting to see his reaction when Jake throws one of his patented no look-behind the back passes. Marriage made in Heaven. This is gonna' be good.

sack daddy. I would be less nervous if there were more teams in cap trouble..their are not many teams that will have cut guys to get under the cap to sign their rookies.. Teams like oakland, carolina, 49ers, jacksonville have arisen from salary cap abyss by already cutting dead wood and restructing guys (brackens just saved the team $4 mil in salary cap..and he stays with the team..and they were about $4 mil over assuming they sign their rookies - before brackens agreed to cuts).. I compared the salary cap list on theredzone.org with the rookie salary pool #'s..and there are 10 teams that will be over the cap after signing rookies..but most by only a mil or two..most can cut a marginal player and do one restructuring and be in ok shape...What it does do is make it hard for guys like jamir miller and kwamie lassiter to find good teams that will fit them in - if they come in - they take time from younger guys teams are trying to groom..and they command $$$..so it makes it tough. I hope I am wrong and some talent becomes available after june 1...but if I had to predict right now - the Cardinals may be screwed..but I hope not..also - we do not now need olineman, linebackers, running backs and we will probably not seriously consider any wrs due to all of the young guys who will get a shot...so we need guys at certain positions to become available..

LOL, that's a good line, Jetstream. I think I'll make it my new signature (if you don't mind!)

It was two years ago I realized Jake just wasn't going to cut it.

Can't see the field and had a weak arm.

I will not miss the grimace on his face after he threw a bad pass. Always looked to me that he was blaming someone.

Will not miss "three and out" Jake one bit.

Glad to have Blake.

You are forgetting one thing, though. Most teams still haven't signed their group of veteran back-ups. We have (Roundtree, Davis etc.), which is why we only signed 10 Rookie FAs this year compared to 25? last year. I expect most teams need about $3M extra to sign these guys.

El Bridgo Crosso.

The burning hope is there, but let's see what these guys do on the field against real NFL defenses before we get all mushy.
