Former Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is back on an NFL roster.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, after his team's 40-37 overtime win over the New York Giants on Sunday, announced a deal with Clowney. The former No. 1 overall pick and three-time Pro Bowler visited with the Cowboys this past week.

Clowney, a Rock Hill, S.C. native and University of South Carolina product, spent the 2024 campaign with the Panthers. He tied for a team-high 5.5 sacks while recording 46 combined tackles—his most since 2018.

The Panthers released Clowney, who had one year remaining on his contract, in early May. The 32-year-old veteran, in an interview with Joe Person of The Athletic, said that he sensed Carolina was ready to move on.

“I went to OTAs Day 1 and they kinda told me they weren’t expecting me to be there. I got a sense then they wanted me out of the building,” Clowney stated. “I was just like, ‘Y’all could’ve told me this back when I was coming in here during the offseason.’ I kinda had a sense, though. I’ve been around the game long enough to know, so I was OK.”

Clowney is now set to enter his 12th NFL season.
