Though Jamaal Williams and Jameis Winston are no longer with the New Orleans Saints, they will both be remembered for a while due to their eccentric personalities and one specific play that happened back in 2023, ending that season.

During a recent appearance on CBS Sports HQ, Williams gave some more details on the controversial last-minute touchdown he scored against the Atlanta Falcons in the final game of the year. With just over a minute left in the last game of the year, Winston led the charge to get Williams his first touchdown rather than just kneel out the clock. It worked, and then chaos broke out with coaches and opposing players upset at the decision.

"I took my gloves off like the end of the year is done. I'm ready to go home. Had a long season, not the season I wanted," Williams said.

It was then that Winston got on his knees and asked the huddle what they wanted to do. They got Williams into the play and the rest is history: "(Winston) was like, let's get Jamaal the touchdown. Then everybody was like, let's do it, then Jameis came up with the backyard play."

It was a tough year for Williams, so it was a nice gesture by his teammates to get him at least one highlight before the season ended. After running for 1,000 yards and scoring 17 touchdowns with the Detroit Lions the year prior, Williams had just 306 yards and that one score in 2023.

"All the (veterans). Everybody. Everybody stood up for me, everybody rooted for me, and they cheered for that. So I appreciate them so much for that. And that just shows the bond and friendship that we have as teammates, you know. Even when the coaches don't like you, we'll still do something for each other and make sure that it's just a good one," said an appreciative Williams.

The 30-year-old running back is still a free agent after ending his two-year deal with New Orleans with a second down campaign in 2024.
