well the reason is simple.......we have some SERIOUS decisions to make regarding contract extentions and this is the year to take advantage of the room we have available. We can get a long way down the road to being playoff contenders by signing the core three- four guys who are to become unrestricted free agents after this season (Shelton, Wilson just to name a few) . This is mega important.....teams that go into the draft with the ability to take the best athelete available or to be able to take mid round flyer picks like that Randle El guy last year, are way ahead of those like us, who have had to draft for too many need positions year after year.
If we can start to become "anticipatory versus reactionary" in our handling of our talent base, it will also help us when we dip into the free agent market from time to time in terms of being able to attract the creme de la creme. It will also be a major "culture alterating" influence in establishing the right "family attitude" that's been missing for ever with this organization.
You know something.........I'm of the mind that if we can keep Blake healthy this year, we've got a real chance to make it to the playoffs......he is putting the right foundation for the offense to get it together this year. Remember Ben Crenshaw's comment going into the last day of The Ryder Cup a few campaigns ago........."I've got a feeling, a real incling that something real good is about to happen tomorrow"......I'm starting to feel this.
I for one am going to wait until the season starts before ragging on this team......just like Graves has asked us to do.....my prediction: 10 & 6.....into the playoffs and advancing through at least the first round.....then......we all know miracles can happen!
