"I'd like us to get a really solid big man, a guy like Elden Campbell," guard Stephon Marbury said. "He's a guy who can score, block shots. A guy like him, he's hungry. I feel like he has something to prove.

"I think he could be a dominant center with his experience and size. He just knows how to play the game. That's the kind of guy I'm looking for, or somebody of that caliber."

Campbell, who finished the season with Seattle and will be a free agent July 1, might fit the profile, but it's never as simple as signing players who fit.

• Amare Stoudemire's development. He'll be working out in Los Angeles with assistant Phil Weber and will be with the club's summer league team at the Rocky Mountain ***** in Salt Lake City. The Suns won't participate in the Los Angeles summer league this year. Stoudemire also may attend a camp held by Suns assistant Tim Grgurich in Las Vegas

|| That should be ridiculous. Amare going up against undrafted players, cba players, a couple of drafted players and a few young nba players? That should be fun.

Paul Silas was interviewed by Cotton about his team and the trade of Campbell to the sonics.
His comment was something like, Elden Campbell did not recover from his surgery and we needed to make a move to better our team.

I am not sure if that means he could not recover this year, or at all. It may have meant this year and then with him being a free agent they were not going to resign him.

If he does recover from his injury and surgery, he could help this team.
(at what price I do not know, and the suns may not want to pay him)

I am sure some of you heard this interview, did I miss anything?

Campbell was terrible this season. But he was very solid in '01-'02: 14 points, 7 rebounds, and nearly 2 blocks per game. He turns 35 this summer. I think that he's unlikely to get much more than the veteran minimum because of his age and terrible year.

If he does seem healthy, however, he'd be a good pickup for a team like the Suns. I say "like the Suns" because he would really make more sense on a team that uses centers. But I'd much rather have him that Scott Williams.

We need to face the truth about Scott Williams, which is that he did not get the job done. The whole point of having him on the roster was supposed to be that he could make his little 12-16 footers when left open. Well, he shot only 41% on the year and only 34% in the playoffs, and that was usually when he was wide open. If he could have made half of those shots, think how different the series with the Spurs would have been.

Campbell isn't a real mid-range threat either, but (if healthy) he brings more to the table than Williams ever did. I've always felt Campbell was one of the more underrated players in the league. If the Suns sign him, I will be happy, because it will mean (a) they think he's healthy and (b) they'll consider actually using him.

In regards to Scott Williams, IMO, we used him way too much. When we signed him, we all thought he was our 3rd center--instead, he turned into our 1st center--and that was the problem. I like his personality and I like his status as a locker room guy, but NOT as a #1 Center.

Now I'm really ticked. No Long Beach Summer League for the Suns?

Campbell has been maddeningly inconsistent throughout his career. Im not sure exactly whey Steph is so high on him. What t does show is that Steph is not that high on Big Jake because he should be a shot-blocker for us.

There is no way we are going to carry 4 centers on our roster.

If only Little Jake could grow about 3 inches this summer.

Scott Williams is gone if the Suns can find a better option.

Thats what I would assume. The thing that Scott has going for him is that he's so cheap. Doesn't the league pay for a portion of those veteran minimum contracts?

Yes, the league does.

Elden Campbell would be a very good addition for the vet min.
Suns can't lose anything with that move but we can win a lot with it.

The Suns could lose by signing him if Elden starts being a locker room cancer because he isn't being played by FJ.

Last summer's free agency was pretty boring. This summer should be much different. It should be very exciting.

because of the luxury tax issue i don't think this summer will be all that exciting for suns fans. for other teams in the nba, sure, but not for us probably.

i think elden would be a good signing. we were just gettin' killed under the basket in our series with the spurs. if only amare had asomeone else to help him with the big men it'd make a tremendous difference. even a scott pollard would go a long way.

We do have a few big men but Frank doesn't play them. Elden is no better than Big Jake and Big Jake is under contact at a good price. I say Frank needs to pull his head out of his a$$ and start playing Big Jake.

i can't say that i disagree with you. big jake should definitely have seen some minutes, perhaps even a large amount of minutes. that said, i have to disagree, if elden is healthy he's better than big jake.

If they sign Elden Campbell I will not be happy! I would rather have Williams back. Cambell is lazy and there's gotta be reasons unknown to fans why he's been shipped around to a few different teams. Williams attitude is great and he gave some good minutes out there while always appearing to have good communication with the team. I would sign Mourning to a three year deal around 4 million a year if he would take it. I think Amare would benifit huge from having him on the team! Amare is built like Mourning and could learn some nice tricks from him. Of course
this is all "what if...". Please....No Elden Campell! No..... It takes time to build a good team and I'd hate to see them rush out and get trash just because they feel pressure to hurry the process. JMO

The problem with Mourning is that he isn't likely to play a full season........nevermind 3 full seasons. All we need is another guy just collecting a paycheck while he rehabs.

That very well could be true, but I still would rather have him than Campbell. I also don't think Mourning would hang around for the three years if he wasn't able to play. I think he would just retire after a year...maybe two.

And besides, any team with interest in Mourning will most definitely have some kind of insurance clause in a contract--they would be stupid not to have some sort of fall-back in the case of his liver problem flaring up again.
