Historically, the most notable rivalry between two MLB organizations is the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.
Although out on the West Coast, there's a heated rivalry between two of the National League's best teams out of the gate in 2025, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.
The Padres are first in the division at 17-8, and the Dodgers are not far behind at 16-9.
The Dodgers defeated the Padres three games to two in last year's NLDS after San Diego made easy work of Los Angeles in the first round of the postseason in 2022, winning that year's NLDS three games to one.
One Dodgers player who was not with the organization in 2022, outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, recently sat down to chat with his teammate, Mookie Betts, on the podcast "On Base".
When Betts asked Hernandez which team he would watch during the 2025 MLB season, the 2024 Home Run Derby winner gave a surprising answer.

"The Padres," Hernandez said bluntly on Mookie Betts' podcast "On Base" on Wednesday. "I know a lot of fans are not gonna like that, but whatever... they better this year, I think."
Offensively, the Padres ranked seventh in MLB on Friday afternoon with a team OPS of .734, receiving superb performances thus far from All-Stars Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado.
Michael King and Nick Pivetta appear to be early-season NL Cy Young candidates on the pitcher's mound, and Robert Suarez has made a strong case for the best closing pitcher in MLB, with an ERA of 0.00 with 10 saves in 11 games.
Whether Dodgers fans dislike or shrug off Hernandez's comments about the Padres, it appears that last year's World Series champions and this year's version of the Padres are destined for extraordinary matchups this season and for years to come.
There are too many stars in each team's dugout for it not to be at least entertaining.
