Ahead of a three-game set against their NL West rivals, the San Francisco Giants, the Arizona Diamondbacks are making room for their No. 1 prospect.

Per a report from The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro, the Diamondbacks are set to recall infielder Jordan Lawlar from Triple-A Reno.

Lawlar, MLB Pipeline's No. 4 overall prospect, has been crushing it for the Reno Aces this season. In 37 games, the 22-year old is slashing .336/.413/.579 with 23 extra base hits and 31 RBI. He's also stolen 13 bases in 14 attempts.

The decision to promote Lawlar is interesting as the Diamondbacks have three infielders - shortstop Geraldo Perdomo, second baseman Ketel Marte, and third baseman Eugenio Suarez - producing at high levels this season.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo, however, isn't worried about finding room in the lineup for the versatile-fielding infielder.

“My questions are — I know he’s going to impact the game offensively, but you can’t totally count on that all the time — what’s he going to do defensively?” Lovullo told reporters. “Is he able to move around comfortably and play three positions and make his plays? The answer is yes.”

Drafted sixth overall by the Diamondbacks in the 2021 MLB Draft, Lawlar played in 14-games with the big league club in 2023 at the age of 21. Thumb surgery and a hamstring strain, however, limited Lawlar to just 23 games in the minors last season.

The Diamondbacks (21-20) currently sit in fourth place in a crowded NL West, six games behind the division leading Dodgers. They're also three-games behind the Giants (24-17) in the NL wild card race.

Lawlar is already on the team's 40-man roster, so the Diamondbacks will need to make an active roster move after recalling their top prospect.
