Indiana Fever star DeWanna Bonner, who played collegiately for the Auburn University Tigers, passed Tina Thompson for third place on the all-time WNBA scoring list Saturday night.

She now sits behind Tina Charles and Diana Taurasi. Charles is still playing for the Connecticut Sun, so the two will go head-to-head until retirement. Charles has 7,696 points as of Saturday night.

Bonner entered the league in 2009 and has always been a top scorer. She exploded at Auburn and is the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,162 points. She is only one of three former Tigers to attain both 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds while at Auburn.

She started her illustrious pro career with the Phoenix Mercury in 2009 before being traded to the Sun in 2020. She only recently joined the Fever this season.

“I don’t know if I, in 15 years, have been on a team where we had this much firepower throughout the whole roster,” Bonner said during training camp. "We can just go any way any given night, and just be unpredictable.”

Bonner is a six-time All-Star and has been named to two All-WNBA teams. She also won two WNBA championships. For Bonner, she wants something else aside from personal records and accolades.

“I’ve been around for a while,” Bonner said. “There’s nothing that I haven’t accomplished that I want but to win another championship.”

That is music to new Fever coach Stephanie White's ears. White also coached Bonner in Connecticut.

“We’re giving them a lot of freedom on the offensive end,’ coach Stephanie White said. “And sometimes with freedom comes responsibility for the ball to not get stuck, to start to learn how to read one another’s strengths and weaknesses in action.”
