Are you trying to buy Detroit Pistons tickets for their upcoming playoff series against the New York Knicks?

You should have access if you live in Michigan. But if you live somewhere else, you may be out of luck.

According to a report from Sportico, the Pistons are geofencing ticket sales for their upcoming playoff games at Little Caesars Arena, which means that people who live outside a certain area will not be able to purchase tickets on Ticketmaster, the league's official ticketing partner.

The geofence covers all of Michigan and certain parts of Ohio, Indiana and Ontario, Canada. The Pistons reportedly said the decision to limit ticket sales to certain areas of the Midwest was to prevent resellers from buying large numbers of tickets in an attempt to make big profits on the resale market:

"This approach is not about keeping any particular group out – it's about protecting our fans and maintaining the integrity of our ticketing process," the Pistons said in a statement to Sportico.

Meddling with ticket sales is not a new approach for NBA teams, especially when Knicks fans are involved. The Philadelphia 76ers ownership group bought 2,000 tickets ahead of their Game 6 matchup against the Knicks in the first round of the 2024 NBA playoffs and gave them away to local fans, hoping that would keep deep-pocketed Knicks fans away from Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Arena.

The Sixers ended up losing the series, but provided a template for teams to manage whose fans can enter which playoff games.

The Pistons have only hosted two playoff games since moving to Little Caesar's Arena in 2017, losing both games to finish a sweep to the No. 1 seed Milwaukee Bucks in the 2019 NBA playoffs.
