Deion Sanders Claps Back At ‘Sellout’ Accusations With Latest Social Media Post originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is one of the most recognizable figures in college football.
On March 28, Coach Prime signed a five-year, $54 million contract extension with the Buffaloes that runs through the 2029 season. Sanders, 57, salary gradually increases from $10 million in 2025-26 to $11 million by 2027-28 and $12 million by 2029 to make him the Big 12’s highest paid coach.
His deal signals a long-term partnership with Colorado that can lead to more 5-star recruits joining his roster. Following this, Sanders signed deals with Nike, Blenders, Boost Mobile, REDCON1 energy drinks and BLK & Bold specialty coffee to add more funds to his net worth.
His Nike contract, for instance, is a sponsorship agreement under the Buffaloes deal that earns him and the school funds under his Prime Time Enterprises company.

However, the sponsorships and contract extension have caused some fans to deem him a “sell-out” because he went from once being a revolutionizing coach for historically black colleges and universities at Jackson State to now a Big 12 coach making millions. Critics argue that Sanders' departure halts efforts to elevate HBCU football and the support of Black universities because his fame was able to bring more talented prospects to those schools over predominantly white universities.
Despite the accusations, Sanders used the situation instead to promote his other collaborations. In a new Instagram post on Friday, he posted a picture of his Nike “Diamond Turf” signature shoes and promoted his other endorsements in the caption.
“They keep saying I’m a sellout, but they keep saying it’s about my shoes,” Sanders wrote. “We’ve sold out @blenders shades, @blkandbold coffee, @redcon energy drinks, @nike CoachPrime Apparel, @cubuffsfootball stadium, and there’s more to come.”
He continued about some of his upcoming sponsorships, “Rods and Reels are coming soon, and more with Tubi on its way.”
Sanders seems to be in good spirits despite dealing with criticism as he continues to build his endorsement empire.
“God is amazing,” he wrote at the end of his post.
