BALTIMORE — David Peterson's stellar first half has landed him his first career All-Star nod, Major League Baseball announced Thursday.
Peterson will replace the Giants' Robbie Ray on the National League's active roster. Ray is scheduled to pitch on Sunday and would be unavailable for Tuesday's All-Star game at Truist Park in Atlanta.
The Mets left-hander is the team's fourth All-Star, joining Francisco Lindor, the league's starting shortstop, along with Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz.
In his sixth season, Peterson has pitched to a 6-4 record with a 3.06 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 93 strikeouts in 106 innings as one of the Mets' most dependable arms. He has made 19 starts — two off his career high — and turned in 11 quality starts.
He is the first Mets' left-handed pitcher to receive an All-Star selection since Johan Santana in 2009.
Peterson made the start for the Mets in Thursday's doubleheader opener against the Orioles, tossing seven innings with one earned run allowed on five hits with six strikeouts.
