Overrated? That is unfair and illogical. Peralta is our leadoff hitter and is being criticized for getting on base?

Pollock stepped up and replaced Goldy as our top power hitter. Peralta is not the same type of hitter. If he tried, he would be just another of our .210 batters hitting popups.

My response was less about the current article but rather my view overall. I am not expecting him to hit for power.

David Peralta aiming to keep confidence through slump
Sometimes, during the moments between pitches, David Peralta will step out, clear his mind and reframe his at-bat. What he is trying to do is summon confidence. It’s an exercise that has been harder for the Diamondbacks' left fielder to do effectively in recent weeks.

“You have to be confident,” Peralta said. “I always like when (hitting coach Dave) Magadan tells us, 'You have to step to the plate expecting something good to happen.' Magadan tells us that. I love that. Sometimes you get into bad habits and you’re not feeling good – this game is mental, so you have to be really strong.”

Like most of his teammates, Peralta is in a bad stretch. After a hot start to the year, his numbers have plummeted. Once the spark at the top of the Diamondbacks’ lineup, Peralta has dropped in manager Torey Lovullo’s lineup.

Peralta went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Friday's win over the Marlins.

Peralta slashed an RBI single in the first, and then hit a solo home run -- his eighth of the year -- in the third inning. Peralta struggled through May, hitting .211 with just four extra-base hits (two home runs) and five RBI. He's still putting up a serviceable .262/.329/.431 on the year, but he needs to demonstrate a bit more consistency to be a fully trusted outfield option.

Diamondbacks' David Peralta: Homers in second straight game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Peralta went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Saturday's win over the Marlins.

The home run, a third-inning shot off Caleb Smith, was Peralta's second in as many days and second against a left-handed pitcher this season. He has primarily hit leadoff, but Peralta has been seeing time in the heart of the order in recent days, with Saturday's start marking his first in the cleanup spot this season.

The Freight Train, dropped to the heart of the order out of necessity, is hitting line drive home runs. That's three games in a row now. 5 hits and 5 RBI's in this 3-game Marlins series.

Diamondbacks' David Peralta: Produces three hits in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Peralta went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and a double Friday in the Diamondbacks' 9-4 win over the Rockies.

Removed from the leadoff role in late May after a prolonged dry spell, Peralta has most commonly served as the Diamondbacks' No. 5 hitter, batting out of that spot in six of his last nine starts. Peralta's chances of reemerging as the Diamondbacks' primary table setter -- at least against right-handed pitching -- may have evaporated following the acquisition of on-base maven Jon Jay from the Royals earlier this week, but Peralta should benefit from increased run-producing chances with the bats of Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Lamb beginning to heat up ahead of him in the order. Peralta has homered four times and has driven in seven runs over his past eight contests.

Diamondbacks' David Peralta: Launches 12th homer Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Peralta went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Pirates.

He continues to swing a hot bat in June, hitting .348 (16-for-46) in 11 games on the month with five homers and 12 RBI. The power surge has given Peralta 12 home runs on the season, only two behind his total from all of last year and five back of the career-high 17 he smacked in 2015.

Diamondbacks' David Peralta: Strokes four hits
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Peralta went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three runs in Arizona's 11-10 loss to Colorado on Friday.

Peralta had tallied two hits in his last 16 at-bats coming into this contest, but he got his stellar season back on track with this four-hit performance that brought his slash line up to .289/.350/.504 through 349 at-bats. He's also been providing unexpectedly consistent power this season, as Peralta is currently on pace for 26 homers, which would comfortably top the career-high of 17 he set in 2015.

I thought Peralta only had one year left after this season but he’s controllable thru 2020. If the D’Backs can’t bring back Corbin/Pollock and look to rebuild Peralta will have value.
