Two things have become crystal clear after the Rockies humiliated the D-Backs on 7/11. Shelby Miller will never be the same pitcher from several years ago. He is a total waste of time and money and trading to get him was a huge mistake. Now we are stuck with his terrible contract and all of his medical bills...forever. Why on earth is Jorge de la Rosa still on this team let alone the major leagues?? He is a continuing flop, belongs in single A ball at best. Release this dude and move on. Speaking of releasing throw Randall Delgado away also, he never fails to disappoint.

As far as I know he is still arbitration eligible for the next few years. The Dbacks do not have to keep him if they don't want.

Greinke and Ray are the only shoo-ins for 2019... Duplantier, Widener or Clarke could earn a spot in the spring and be called up in May to save a year of control.

Miller might be better in the BP where he’s not thinking about his start for 5 days.

That is the only consideration to try from now on. Even then, he should be on a short leash. You can lose a game in the 5th or 6th inning as well as any other.

Miller has clearly demoralized the team and fans since his arrival as our #2 pitcher behind Greinke.

I had a thought about his season with the Braves in 2015 when he went 6-17 with a 3.02 ERA.

Did the 3.02 ERA make him a#2 pitcher? Or is a #2 pitcher one who, when your team scores 3, you give up 2, not 4.

If he gave up, every other game, 5 & 1 or 4 & 2 and loses every other game, he'd have a 3.00 ERA but not be a clutch pitcher.

Many of you would probably disagree (justifiably), but it is just a thought. A #2 starter does what is necessary to win. Like Curt Schilling did on the D-backs, despite giving up a bunch of (solo) HR's.

When I saw the "BP" I thought you meant "Batting Practice". He is already doing that. :D

Shelby Miller in the bullpen is an expensive reliever but who knows?? It might revive his career like Archie. We need to try to get some value from this albatross and his crazy expensive contract. If he does not like it, release him & eat the millions as another stupid move by the front office. They showed little patience with Trevor Bauer because Gibson did not like his "approach". He seems fine in Cleveland. Dump de la Rosa immediately, move Miller to pen and cross your fingers you don't have to pay for another Tommy John for him. He will NEVER be an effective starter again because he NEVER was one.

(A) Is he damaged goods? (B) Could we ever depend on him as even a #5 starter? (C) Can he be anything other than mediocre at best? (D) What is the prognosis for the team next season if we lose Ray and Pollock with Greinke another year older?

If the answers are (A) Yes or probably; (B) Maybe; (C) Probably not, the Front Office will have to make some professional decisions. If the answer to (D) is "bad", what does it matter?
