The Dallas Cowboys didn't select any wide receivers in the 2025 NFL Draft. To help shore up their WR room, Dallas has now traded picks from the 2026 and 2027 drafts to Pittsburgh in exchange for enigmatic wideout George Pickens.

Per numerous reports, the Cowboys are sending two future picks to the Steelers for Pickens and a 2027 late-round pick.

  • Cowboys acquire WR George Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick
  • Steelers acquire a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick

Pickens, 24, is entering his fourth season. He was a second-round pick out of Georgia in the 2022 NFL Draft and has proven production. Pickens led the NFL in yards per reception in 2023 (18.1 YPC) and has caught 174 passes in 48 games, scoring 12 TDs despite a rotating cast of quarterbacks in Pittsburgh. Yet he's also no stranger to skating on thin ice.

The Steelers and head coach Mike Tomlin showed frustration with Pickens' repeated erratic behavior, which included showing up late for practices, throwing helmets, not running routes hard when he's not the primary option, writing profanity on his eyeblack, and more. Pittsburgh also didn't draft a receiver in the 2025 draft, though the Steelers did trade for DK Metcalf and signed veteran Robert Woods this offseason.
