Cowboys’ QB Dak Prescott stats don’t tell the story of breakthrough season opener vs. Eagles originally appeared on The Sporting News
Dak Prescott played really, really well in the Dallas Cowboys' season opener.
He just didn't have the stats or the victory to show for it.
You didn't have to look far if you were watching the end of the game. Superstar wide receiver CeeDee Lamb had two crucial drops on what would've been big-time gains on a potential go-ahead drive.
Lamb had two earlier drops, too. You don't normally count on one of the league's best receivers dropping four passes. Prescott's production would've been much higher with those gains.
The other encouraging sign: Prescott's mobility.
NBC color commentator Cris Collinsworth was almost giddy on a couple of different plays when Prescott showed shiftiness to evade defenders before unleashing solid throws.

Offseason surgery seems to have given Prescott both improved movement skills and also an improved confidence to try and make those mobile plays.
Dallas obviously would've preferred to win, and Prescott's fantasy owners surely would've liked more on-paper production.
He finished 21-for-34 for 188 yards, and he didn't happen to be involved in either of the Cowboys' touchdowns directly, as both were run in by Javonte Williams.
But with a few 20- or 30-yard Lamb catches, that also would've extended drives and potentially set up a TD pass or two, Prescott would've had a big night and maybe a win.
And just the fact that he was moving that well is a huge deal. There's reason for hope for the Cowboys' offense, even if a win didn't come in Week 1.
