In LA we are seeing 500-600 new cases per day. The mayor just ordered all workers and patrons at essential businesses to wear masks at all times. They also stated those who don’t wear masks can be refused service.

I'm impressed, could be better but we've done quite well.

I"m at work with roofers right now they both have N95 masks, they're staying at least 10 feet away from me etc. Even rode up the elevator separately.

I am not a huge Newsom fan but I think he's done an exceptional job. To be clear I think Cuomo has done an exceptional job too, NYC is just a whole other beast because it's so condensed and there's so much mass transit etc.

The big risks in California were in nursing homes, homeless camps and prisons. I don't think it's clear yet if those risks are mitigated or not but so far we haven't had rampant surges in any of those areas which is really good.

I have a friend who works security at Valley Medical Center in San Jose, they have a bunch of Covid 19 patients there but he said it seems to have levelled off for about 10 days there were more every evening he worked, now seems to have levelled off.

If schools were in session I'd give Newsom an A+ so far. He's been a strong, steady, and calming influence from the get go. He gets his message and directives out while not doing a whole lot of interviews or being a press hound.

Interesting stuff in the local news about studies at Stanford. They think the virus may have been in California much earlier than originally thought, we may have been ground zero for the US not Washington. They are suspecting part of why our current situation isn't exploding as fast as thought is that many people were sick or exposed to it months earlier, and so California may be much closer to herd immunity than anybody else?

Hard to believe we didn't have huge problems then if it's true but again the nature of California is much different than NY, lots of people alone in a car, lots of people working from home, so it's possible it was here earlier, nobody knew, and lots of us are already immune.

I read that - a lot of flaws in the study.

No real proof of the theory, just something they are investigating.

I saw an article on that from KSBW news. It didn't make a lot of sense to me. If California was hit in the fall like they're theorizing then there should have been a huge uptick in "mystery flu" and deaths back then. It probably wouldn't have been as bad as NY due to population density, subways, etc. but it should have caused enough of a blip to make people take notice. Unless the anti-stay at homers are right and this has been blown out of proportion which I don't believe is the case.

    Sorry, to be a nitpicker.

But, they don't have a theory. They have a hypothesis.

It's probably true. I still have an office in Irvine and was there the least week of January. The Tuesday after the super bowl I was sick as a dog but it was a weird sickness I never had before. To my chagrin I survived the Rona.

Totally fine with it. I don't think there is another way at the moment.

I'm right on the county line, and if the next county over lifts some restrictions sooner, I'm going to be tempted. My mental health is going to hell, so there's no safe path at this point.
