Major League Baseball's annual All-Star Game is about a month away, and voting for All-Stars is underway.

Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll came into the team's June 12 day off batting .260 with an MLB-leading eight triples and 19 home runs, tied for fifth in the majors with teammate Eugenio Suarez.

Carroll is a solid All-Star candidate. Suarez might not be, but his MLB-leading three grand slams, including the one he hit on June 11 to lead the Diamondbacks to a come-from-behind win over the Seattle Mariners, are impressive nonetheless.

The 19 home runs for each player also make them both worthy of consideration for the All-Star Home Run Derby on July 14 in Atlanta. No rule requires participants to be All-Stars, and it's simply a matter of who will be invited.

Both smiled at the thought of competing when asked this week at Chase Field about whether they would take part if invited. Carroll got some advice from a star player from a rival team, Mookie Betts of the Dodgers.

Betts took part in the Derby in 2023 in Seattle, where he and Carroll were National League All-Stars.

"He said, 'Leave that to the big guys,' Carroll said.

There is less reason to decline based on how trying to hit a lot of home runs would affect his swing.

"There's a lot of guys who hit the ball a lot farther. Leave it to those guys to put on a show," Carroll said.

And Suarez, who won a home run derby in his native Venezuela this past offseason over Milwaukee Brewers rising star Jackson Chourio, just might be the type of true power hitter to do what Carroll suggests. He has two career home runs at Truist Park.

But he, too, stopped short of saying he would accept an invite. A devoted husband and father, Suarez would certainly consider their wishes before taking his wife and kids to Atlanta.

"Well, I would have to have a conversation with my family about it," Suarez said. "It would be an honor for me, and obviously, I would be delighted to be in it. If it's in the plans for me, it would be a pleasure to compete in it."

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Carroll's and Suarez's numbers make them deserving of consideration for the Home Run Derby.

"I put that in the hands of them individually if they were asked," Lovullo said. "I know that it takes a lot out of the body. I'm sure they could both handle it. They're both healthy, and I think they do deserve it. I think it would be a great opportunity for them to go out there and get that type of exposure."
