Jayden Daniels is certainly the centerpiece for the Commanders.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated conveyed Monday that the Commanders' staff of Adam Peters (GM), Dan Quinn (HC) and Kliff Kingsbury (OC) are all on the same page regarding last year's Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Daniels seems to have benefited immensely from playing five years in college, which really prepared him well for the NFL game. As a result, Daniels was a starter in Week 1 and excelled in directing Kingsbury's offense, resulting in the Commanders finishing 12-5 in 2024.
Daniels already had a personal quarterback coach, Taylor Kelly, so Kingsbury communicated with Kelly, ensuring the two would speak the same language to Daniels as he worked and prepared for his first NFL training camp in 2024. Kelly and Kingsbury understood their role was to develop Daniels together.
One thing that could be a tremendous plus for Daniels this season is the fact that Dan Quinn (HC), Kliff Kingsbury (OC), Brian Johnson (pass game coordinator), Tavita Pritchard (QB coach) and David Blough (assistant QB coach) all return for Daniels' second NFL season. This will allow the Commanders to continue the same trajectory with the same language in year two for Daniels. Another plus is that veteran backup Marcus Mariota returns. Mariota served as a mentor to Daniels last season.
Daniels threw for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns, nine picks and a 100.1 rating, and rushed for 891 yards and another six touchdowns last year, then won two playoff games on the road.
