Colorado strikes unprecedented naming rights deal with an American original originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Colorado Buffaloes Athletics is seizing the momentum of the “Prime Effect” by finalizing a major naming rights deal.
The Mountain States Ford Stores has agreed to be the title sponsor for CU's Indoor Practice Facility. The Ford Practice Facility will carry the name for the next seven years, brokered by Buffalo Sports Properties. The partnership reflects the increased visibility and commercial appeal of Colorado’s athletic programs under the leadership of head football coach Deion Sanders.
The 108,000-square-foot Ford Practice Facility serves as a multi-sport training hub, featuring a full-sized football field, a six-lane, 300-meter track, and extensive space for workouts, practices, and conditioning.
Opened nine years ago, this facility has been vital for year-round preparation across nearly every Buffaloes athletic program. The partnership with Ford is the first naming rights agreement in the facility’s history, signaling a new era of brand integration and financial support for Colorado Athletics.
Colorado Athletic Director Rick George says the alignment between the university and Ford brings a net-zero energy design and solar array, which complement Ford’s growing electric vehicle lineup.
“In addition to having an iconic company join the Buffs family, there is a natural synergy between our indoor practice facility and the promotion of Ford's excellent line of electric vehicles," George said in a statement.
The agreement extends beyond just naming rights. Ford will become the presenting sponsor of CU Football first downs and will receive intellectual property rights, LED and static signage, and various traditional and digital marketing opportunities across the athletic department. The collaboration offers Ford increased visibility and connection to a passionate fan base energized by Coach Prime’s leadership and the resurgence of the football program.
Greg Larson, the Chairman of the Mountain States Ford Stores, expressed pride in supporting Colorado and its athletic community. “We are proud to support the events and institutions that unite us,” Larson said. “Partnering with the University of Colorado across all athletic programs is a true privilege.”
As the Buffs continue to gain national attention, this naming rights deal reflects how Colorado is maximizing its brand power during the Prime era. The biggest question that remains is will Folsom Field be next?
