as someone who played middle backer for 9 years, what you are describing is called Football. "double responsibilities" exist on every play for every position.

lets take what is seemingly the most simple assignment. A cornerback in man coverage

you cant just stare at your man and chase him. better check LOS and backfield, could be a run your way and you cant run 40 yards downfield with the receiver on a fake go-route. Corners who show that on film will be met with fake go-routes... most NFL corners dont show that on film so they are met with blocking receivers... but you for sure still see it in the NFL but much more common in college/HS

Vance is a good DC chopp... He's not great but definitely good.
As someone who also played ILB in high school and college, there are also a variety of schemes - some easier and some much more complex, for the ILBs. In college I experienced both.

Parsons was a 5 star coming out of high school at EDGE. Penn State really moved him to ILB for absolutely no reason.

They had good rushers at Penn State. Oweh was there at the time. It was a great way to get them all on the field atthe same time.

Parsons is a legend locally at Central Dauphin & then Harrisburg HS.

FYI.... Chase Edmonds went to Central Dauphin East HS.

He should’ve started on the other side of Oweh if that’s the case. Parsons should have gone top 5, arguably 3, & would have earned more money. They were good, but they damn sure weren’t/aren’t a transcendent talent like Parsons.

College coaches don't position players to get drafted higher. He was a beast at ILBer and did the team a world of good.

I have no idea regarding your experience but there is a difference between having to drop into a hook/curl zone as a LB and then being responsible for CMC out of the backfield in open space vs even your better college RBs. LB friendly DCs won't ask their LBs to drop deep in those situations and will just have them play man vs CMC and tell them to get to him as soon as he releases.

A difference between having your LBs play hard gap responsibility vs run and also playing the S deep but expecting your LBs to get to the necessary drop depth. Yes, every LB has to honor play action and then get to a pass drop, but LB friendly DCs play their S's closer to the LOS to protect the LBs. Not bad vs future business professionals in college but a bog deal vs George Kittle, Robert Woods, Chris Godwin, etc...

Yikes! The next lowest percentage is more than double what Collins played. Another whiff by Keim?

Considering further that woeful percentage…how is it possible? And how does VJ keep his job when he essentially sat Simmons most of his rookie year too? I mean, there’s a clear pattern of distaste in utilizing first-year, first-round players, which is ludicrous and damages the organization overall. In a league in which the line between failure and success is often razor-thin, this is dysfunction at its highest and simply can’t occur if the club is serious about chasing a title. Lastly, it reminds me of BA’s stubborn unwillingness to embrace rookies—remember how frustrating that was? You’d think SK (and/or MB?) would have learned their lesson.
