Bump! Steve just described the talk that Torey had with Christian Walker, whose slump started
when Lamb was injured and he became the everyday 1B.

Torey told him that the job is his. Just relax and do his best. And Walker went 3-for-3 with a HR.

A 28-year old rookie is still is still a rookie. Torey knows how to motivate his players.

And Walker followed up with another 3-hit (including HR) game,
the homer being the go-ahead run in the top of the 9th.

Torey is a fantastic player relations guy, a supreme bench coach. His weaknesses are line-ups, defining roles, in-game management and strategy and holding players accountable.

As a bench coach, there are few, if any, I would rather have than Torey. I just think he is miscast as a manager.

Yup, more suited to hit to all fields -- with placement of both hands and feet.

It is why he is generating league leading line drive bat speed.

Kudos to the coaches, himself and/or whoever helped him adjust.

I love it when a power hitter's go-to swing is line drives rather than fly balls.

Looking ahead, I sure hope that Torey doesn't feel obligated to play Jake Lamb at 1B when he returns. Or platoon them.

Look at his Walker's splits vs. right-handed pitchers. Although he has been striking out a lot (especially during his slump),
he hits righties better than the left-handed Lamb ever did.

This might be a very unpopular opinion but I think the Dbacks are much better off without Goldy. As good as Goldy was the one thing about him that always bothered me was he was not a team leader. He was just a quiet guy who never opened his mouth and did his job. There is nothing wrong with that but I think it is important for your best player to also be a leader in the clubhouse.

The thoughts that have been crossing my mind is that the TEAM is playing better because they don't have Goldy in the hole. Goldy is a great player, but not a focus player.

First base belongs to Chris
And I can tell you this
You heard it here
Rookie of the Year
He is not going to miss

Has opposite field power
Opponents are going to cower
Why this shtick?
He's from Limerick (Pa.)
And improving by the hour

:)

Bally’s Sports needs to go away
It is the first time he's had enough at-bats to be scouted properly and planned for.
The question now is, will he respond? A good player with good coaching will over come. We will know in 4-6 weeks.

Despite Christian Walker's slump in this, his rookie season, along with the rest of
the D-back hitters, I've compared his stats to Goldy through today.

Surprisingly closer than we'd expect. Except SLG and OPS, where Walker excels.
