Per @FantasyPtsData, Marv was the first read on 15.2% of routes in Week 3, up from 4.5% in the first two weeks

Looking at the video below, against the Niners, it seems MHJ not able to get open or find the seams in the zone.

The 5th one was a big play and a clutch catch high throw he's probably going to get drilled and he caught it.

The 4th one is the literal poster child of what's wrong with Marv, the ball has to come out quickly we're trying to get the first down and for no apparent reason Marv lets the DB undercut the route and goes behind him. The ball is already in the air luckily the DB didn't get there quicker and get a picksix. JB is of course at fault too but the reality is there Marv HAS to be in front of the DB it's the entire design of the play and he went behind him on a lazy route.

If he was first read on 15% of the routes then he just isn't getting open.

Not necessarily; it’s possible that the other team had the right coverage or something outside Marv’s control.

I have my doubts about this site’s methodology in determining first read.

It checks out. JB looked at him 8x out of 52 throws.

Marv actually trying this week is fantastic news. If he keeps this up Brissett might actually trust him enough to give him more targets.

1st read target share is never an entirely accurate stat. Only the players/OC know who the designed read is. How the defense is aligned pre-snap influences who the QB looks at first.

That said I still think its somewhat useful for showing who is actually involved in the gameplan.

This would be so Cards sacrificing a young WR for the crap we have at QB.

He’s useless through contact. Sorry.

honestly if there's no PI and he catches it he's going down right away he wouldn't have scored on that. So even if he caught it we would have taken the penalty to stop the clock IMO. It was a perfect back shoulder he just dropped it.

But the last series was on JB

None of our WRs have elite hands.

Wilson has good hands.

MJH’s are a little below average.

McBrides are probably elite though. He’s starting to show a little wear and tear unfortunately

I don’t disagree but this is now two very different QB’s in a row (the mercurial Kyler and the veteran “pro” JB) just simply checking out of the Marv thing.

I hate watching Brissett but the final drive isn’t on him.

the last 3 throws he stared at the receiver on every one. I know it's confined down there but he picked where he was throwing pre snap and never wavered.

It was poor play calling by Lafleur, but Brisket it’s definitely rarely going thru reads this season. He’s basically loooking at coverage at the LOS & picking his guy & locking on & staring them down repeatedly. It’s fact

Yup Mich like Kyler was doing.

The back of the end zone is always open inside the 10 & not once did Lafleur use it. Soooo man TDs passes occur in the back of the end zone
