The Chargers signed former Eagles offensive lineman Mekhi Becton, the team announced.

It is a two-year deal for Becton.

Becton is coming off his best season as a professional, as he was a key piece up front that helped pave the way for running back Saquon Barkley.

Becton started all 15 regular-season games and four postseason games, including Super Bowl LIX.

Selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft by the Jets, Becton struggled with consistency at tackle and injuries. He made 30 starts, with 28 coming at left tackle and two at right tackle in New York.

Philadelphia signed him last offseason and moved him inside to guard, where he had the most success.

The plan for Becton with the Chargers is to stay at guard. It's likely that he will take over at right guard, the position played by Trey Pipkins last season.
