The Boston Celtics find themselves in a challenging position as they prepare for Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series against the New York Knicks. In Game 1, the Celtics squandered a 20-point lead, ultimately falling 108-105 in overtime.
Their shooting woes were evident, as they set a playoff record by missing 45 of 60 3-point attempts. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown led the team with 23 points each, but the team's overall performance left much to be desired.
Compounding their troubles, the Celtics faced setbacks with key players during Game 1. Kristaps Porzingis exited the game due to lingering effects of an upper respiratory illness that had sidelined him earlier in the season. He was held scoreless in 13 minutes and did not play the second half.

Additionally, another player suffered an injury late in the third quarter, further depleting the team's rotation.
That player was Sam Hauser, who sprained his right ankle while contesting a 3-point attempt by OG Anunoby. He was assisted off the court and did not return to the game. Initially listed as doubtful for Game 2, Hauser was officially ruled out shortly before tip-off.
Hauser's absence is significant, as he has been a reliable contributor off the bench, averaging 8.5 points per game on 45.1% shooting, including 41.6% from beyond the arc. His perimeter shooting and spacing will be missed, especially against a Knicks team that has shown resilience and depth.
The Celtics will aim to even the series when they return to action at TD Garden on Wednesday.
