The Arizona Cardinals couldn't make it out of the first week of training camp without a season-ending injury. Cornerback Star Thomas V, who left Friday's practice after landing awkwardly while trying to defend a pass, suffered a tore ACL, per ESPN's Adam Schefter, and will miss the entire season.

Thomas started 15 games last season and broke up six passes. He was set to compete with 2024 second-round pick Max Melton and this year's second-round pick Will Johnson for one of the two starting boundary cornerback jobs.

That is no longer the case.

The Cardinals now have lost both of last season's outside cornerback starters for the season to knee injuries. Sean Murphy-Bunting landed on NFI in the spring after an offseason knee injury needed surgery. His season is over, too.

The injury tests the Cardinals' depth at the position. It also opens the door for players like Elijah Jones, Kei'Trel Clark and fifth-round pick Denzel Burke to push for a role on defense.

The Cardinals could also look to the free agent market, with some notable veterans still available.

They brought in cornerback Steven Gilmore, the younger brother of Stephon Gilmore, for a visit over the weekend.

The Cardinals have not announced any roster moves as of yet, but they will ultimately put Thomas on injured reserve.
