After weeks of speculation and the Cardinals unable to find a trade partner, Hopkins was released on Friday.
The Cardinals will absorb a dead salary cap hit of $21 million in 2023, but he will be cleared from the books after that. (They could declare him a June 1 cut, which would allow them to spread the hit evenly over this season and next if they choose.)

Wow that seems crazy but I assume they just couldn't find a trade partner?

I guess if you're going to do it and tank might as well rip the band aid off and take the hit now.

I hope he ends up on a contender would like to see him get a shot at a ring.

so -- $9mm more cap space this year, $15mm next

not sure what they have planned for the $25mm in cap space this year, other than to carry most of it into 2024

Y’all still fans of this trash organization? Lol

I swear it’s comical how bad the cardinals are run. So it’s that bad between Hopkins and the Cardinals you couldn’t just keep him.

I’m not overly surprised by this. Other teams wanted Cards to eat money on his contract in a trade, and it wasn’t worth a mid round pick for them to do that.
