The 2024-25 season has been a historic one for Kiefer Sherwood. Not only did he set new career highs in goals, assists and points, but he also set the NHL record for hits in a season with 462. The record was initially held by Nashville Predators defenceman Jeremy Lauzon, who threw 383 during the 2023-24 season.

Sherwood not only took the title of hit king for 2024-25, but he blew his competition out of the water. As of April 17, 2025, Sherwood holds a 157-hit lead over Columbus Blue Jackets' Mathieu Olivier, who sits second with 305. In the end, the number may be closer to 150, as Columbus still has one more game to go this season.
On top of setting the record, Sherwood led the league in 10+ hit games this season. The Canucks forward accounted for ten of the 21 times this season a player recorded 10+ hits, which breaks down to about 47%. Sherwood also entered the final day of the regular season as the single-game hit king for 2024-25, as he was the only player to throw 12 hits this year.
While there are some strong candidates, it is hard to picture a better signing from the 2024 off-season than Sherwood. The former Predators forward signed a two-year contract with Vancouver, which carries an AAV of $1.5 million. If Sherwood hits free agency in 2026, there will no doubt be a line of teams looking to add him to their roster.
