The Buffalo Bills will be featured on HBO's Hard Knocks in August, as camera crews will chronicle the team's activity during training camp at St. John Fisher in Pittsford, New York.
The Bills being chosen for 'Hard Knocks' was made possible due to recently changed rules regarding which teams can be selected. Previously, any team that made the playoffs in either of the two prior years were exempt from being selected. The new rule is that only teams with a first-year head coach or teams that have been on the show in the last eight years are exempt, as well as a team involved in the in-season version of the show.
With the rule change, the Bills were a no-brainer for the NFL and HBO. The team's popularity has skyrocketed in the Josh Allen era. They were selected to be featured on the show the first time that they have been eligible since 2019 (they've made the playoffs the last six years).
Now, HBO will get to follow a team with Super Bowl hopes instead of what they usually do which is document a team that is unproven. The Bills are currently favored in all 17 games in 2025.
While Bills coaches probably aren't thrilled about the potential distraction, fans will see more of their favorite team and viewers will be exposed to some of the most entertaining personalities in the NFL like Dion Dawkins, Tre'Davious White, Keon Coleman, and more.
Hard Knocks made its debut on HBO in 2001 and continues to be popular among NFL fans 24 years later. For the Bills, it's the first time they will be featured in the show. In the early days of the show, the Bills didn't have the number of fans they have today.
Along with the announcement of the Bills being selected, it was also announced that the NFC East was selected for the in-season version of Hard Knocks, which will air starting in December.
For those worried about the distraction, at least they won't have it during the season.
