Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker and teammate Jalen Thompson combined for 18 of the team’s 76 total tackles in Week 2. The Cardinals’ 27-22 victory over the Carolina Panthers was the outcome of what became an unreasonably tedious task in the end. Yet, Baker, linebacker Mack Wilson Sr., and defensive coordinator Nick Rallis stayed militant throughout the strenuous journey.

The Cardinals' defense spent 77 plays and a total time of 33:15 minutes fending off the Panthers in Week 2. The contest rendered a few injuries as well, including defensive tackle L.J. Collier and defensive back Max Melton, who both left the game with knee injuries. Head coach Jonathan Gannon has to address the issue at hand, which is offensive coordinator Drew Petzing's inability to close out games by sustaining offensive drives. While Gannon promised to make modifications to the playbook this offseason, the team is still operating with the same laissez-faire regiment on offense. Simply, a lack of execution on offense left the team defense struggling its way to victory, when things could’ve been all so simple.

Rallis and the Cardinals' defense had to save the day versus the New Orleans Saints in Week 1 and simultaneously were required to do the same thing in Week 2. Baker and defensive tackle Calais Campbell operate as leaders of the Cardinals’ defense, and secretly they both know that opposing offenses are being granted too many opportunities to climb back in contest. Gannon needs to correct offensive coordinator Drew Petzing, or a disconnect in team camaraderie could be imminent, especially if defensive players continue to get injured because of attrition.
