Bryce Harper is not in the lineup for the Phillies for Game 1 of their doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves on May 29.

Harper was hit on the elbow by a pitch from the Braves' Spencer Strider in the first inning on May 27. Harper went down to one knee, cradling his right forearm. After a few minutes, Harper went to the clubhouse for further examination.

J.T.'s REALMUTO'S IMPACT: After Bryce Harper injury scare, this Phillies player is just as vital despite his slump

The Phillies announced during the game that Harper has a right elbow contusion and that X-rays were negative.

After the 2-0 victory, Phillies manager Rob Thomson said he didn't know how long Harper would be out, but he was relieved the injury wasn't worse.

"I was anxious. But happy there was no break," he said.

The Phillies' game on May 28 was rained out, and is being made up as a split doubleheader on May 29. That Harper isn't playing in Game 1 indicates that he wouldn't have played the day before if the game had not been rained out.

The Phillies won't announce their lineup for the second game, which is scheduled to start at 6:45 p.m. until after the first game.

Phillies lineup vs. Atlanta Braves

Harper isn't the only Phillies' star sitting out in Game 1. Catcher J.T. Realmuto is getting Game 1 off as well. Realmuto, in a 6-for-39 slump, will likely play in Game 2. Rafael Marchan is replacing him.

To replace Harper at first base, the Phillies are moving Alec Bohm from third base to first, and Edmundo Sosa is playing third.

LHP Cristopher Sanchez (4-1, 3.17 ERA) is the Phillies starter. He'll be opposed by RHP A.J. Smith-Shawver (3-2, 3.67).

The game begins at 1:05 p.m., and is televised on NBC Sports Philadelphia. The radio broadcast is on 94 WIP (WDEL 1150 AM in Delaware).

Here is the Phillies' batting order:

  • Bryson Stott, 2B
  • Trea Turner, SS
  • Kyle Schwarber, DH
  • Alec Bohm, 1B
  • Nick Castellanos, RF
  • Max Kepler, LF
  • Edmundo Sosa, 3B
  • Brandon Marsh, CF
  • Rafael Marchan, C
