With the No. 94 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the Cleveland Brownsgot a quarterback by taking Dillon Gabriel from Oregon.

Gabriel stands at 5-foot-11 and started 63 games over the course of six seasons at UCF, Oklahoma, and Oregon. He earned First Team All-American honors in 2024 because of his quick release and accuracy, especially on deep throws or over the middle of the field. Gabriel excels at getting through progressions and works through the pocket well, and his arm strength is sufficient when he can get his feet set.

The biggest downside immediately is his physical profile, as he is on the smaller side in almost every measurement. While he can take advantage of space and get out of the pocket, his lack of high-end arm strength shows up when he has to throw on the run. Additionally, his anticipation isn't as good as you would like it to be for someone who centers their game on accuracy.

In his one season at Oregon, Gabriel completed 72.9 percent of his passes for 3,857 yards, 30 touchdowns, and six interceptions. PFF graded him as the eighth-best quarterback in 2024 of those who took at least 20 percent of their team's dropbacks.

It's a shocking turn of events, as Colorado's Shedeur Sanders continues to slide, and the Browns seemed potentially content with the idea of waiting until Day 3 to get a quarterback. Regardless, the quarterback room will consist of Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel in 2025, with Deshaun Watson nursing a torn Achilles.

Considering the lack of guarantee that Flacco and Pickett perform to the level that would take a quarterback change out of question, it wouldn't be surprising to see Gabriel get some starts this season with eyes on the 2026 class for a better shot at a franchise-changing signal caller.
