Everything has slowed down for Bo Nix going into Year 2.

For the first time since high school, Nix is going into a football season with the same play caller from the previous season. Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton and Nix now have a year of experience together, and it has made a world of difference for the young quarterback.

Nix, 25, does not have to think as much as he did at this point in the offseason last year. The offense is second nature to him, so he can now focus on the defense at the line of scrimmage on each snap.

“It helps a lot, because I'm not thinking about what the offense is doing," Nix said during organized team activities. "Usually, that's the case. When you go up to the line of scrimmage, you want to be only thinking about the defense. Only processing and reacting to the defense, not the footwork, or the motion, or the timing or whatever that I'm doing. That process is eliminated, and now I can focus on a lot more of the defense.”

Payton said last month that things are "entirely different" with Nix entering his second season. The coach no longer repeats plays, and Nix's fast processing has helped the offense get in and out of the huddle quickly.

"It’s a lot better and a lot more enjoyable not thinking right now as opposed to what I was doing last year," Nix said. That kind of jump in development will undoubtedly be visible on the field, and fans will get their first look at the uncumbered second-year QB when training camp begins later this summer. Signs appear to be pointing toward a Year 2 leap for Nix.
