The Denver Broncos returned to the practice field on Wednesday with mixed news on the injury front.
The good news: Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain (ankle) and tight end/fullback Nate Adkins (ankle) both practiced. The bad news: Denver linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quad) and tight end Evan Engram (calf) did not practice.
Greenlaw returned to practice on a limited basis last Friday, so it's an apparent step back that he was not able to participate on Wednesday. After practice, coach Sean Payton said Greenlaw's rehab is “a little nebulous,” but “he’s on our schedule.” Make of that what you will.
Engram, meanwhile, said his calf injury was "good" after Sunday's game, but he was not present for the portion of Wednesday's practice that was open to the media. We'll see how things go on Thursday and Friday.
Denver's preparing to face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3. L.A. will be missing star pass rusher Khalil Mack this week. After suffering a gruesome elbow injury on Monday Night Football, Mack was placed on injured reserve. He will now miss at least the next four games.
The Broncos' complete Wednesday injury report will be added below when it becomes available later today.
Denver and L.A. are set to practice again on Thursday and Friday before releasing final injury reports with game statuses for Sunday's showdown. The Broncos are considered slight underdogs going into Week 3.
