As the starting quarterback of the Buffalo Bills, Josh Allen is used to getting trash-talked by New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner.
So he likely didn’t know how to react when his bitter AFC East rival sent what was likely meant as a message of sympathy to him on social media regarding his fiancée Hailee Steinfeld.
Like many, Gardner presumably saw all the talk about Steinfeld’s new movie “Sinners,” in which her intimate scenes with co-star Michael B. Jordan drew some pretty visceral reactions from fans on social media.
On Thursday, Gardner made it known where he stands on watching the spouse of a fellow NFL player—even a division rival—in such risqué context.
“Out of respect for my dawg Josh, I will not be going to see Sinners,” Gardner wrote.
While Gardner likely believed his actions to be considerate, his post drew some mixed reactions from fans on social media with some suggesting the Pro Bowl cornerback was actually trolling Allen, and others mocking Gardner for drawing more attention to the situation.
“Putting out this tweet is more disrespectful than going to see the movie bruh ,” one fan wrote.
“@iamSauceGardner bro you realize this tweet is more disrespectful than respectful. I get what you’re trying to do but you’re still bringing up that point that everybody else is talking about, this isn’t hate bro just my opinion she’s an actress,” another added.

“Ay, I'm here for Sauce all bro wanted to do is just show some respect (you can’t blame him) cause if your gf/wife was in an intimate movie scene that the whole world can see wouldn't you feel like ‘[expletive] people on social media finna say [expletive]!’” a third fan remarked.
“People think this is being nice but it’s actually the funniest way to troll. It’s like when you try to [expletive] off someone by being overly nice when they want you to be mean/mad,” one user pointed out.
“You real for that ,” another user quipped.
“Respecting your rival? Weak,” one fan scoffed.

While Gardner seemingly feels watching “Sinners” would be inappropriate for his personal circumstances, Allen has a different stance.
The reigning NFL MVP gave the movie a rave review, stating how proud he was to be a supportive fiancée as Steinfeld’s Hollywood star is on the rise.
“It was awesome,” Allen said. “It was a different world. Very cool experience, I’m so excited for her, and so proud of her and it’s getting some great reviews. It’s a fantastic movie, so go watch it.”
